A Special "Thank You" for a Touching Gesture

The Following story is reprinted with permission for the Golden Empire Arabian Horse Society in Bakersfield, California.  You may not know the names of the people but the camaraderie among horse lovers and the “can do” spirit of the Arabian will be easy to recognize.  For more information about the club, contact Susan Pugh at 661-589-5246 or email her at graphistsp@aol.com

My daughter Lindsay Jones is just finishing up her 10th and final year in 4-H.  She is a graduate of North High and in the U.S. Army Reserves. She had shown her Paint gelding, Conquest, for years in 4-H when he developed a severe shoulder in jury and had to be retired in April. We were at a loss as to what to do for a horse for this, her last 4-H show season, as I am on disability and could not afford to purchase another horse. Susan Cavanaugh came to our rescue and leased Lindsay her mare, AB Fantacie. Never having had Arabians, this was a whole new experience. What a joy this horse has been.
My daughter and “Fanny” were 5th in the State in Horsemanship and 10th in the State in Western Pleasure at the Classic. She too made the cuts in all of her classes with over 50 horses in each class.   They are in the top 4 Overall in the County for 4-H, 14 thru 18. They are hoping for a good showing at the Kern County Fair and will be coming out Novice Am. at the Arab Show next Spring.
May I add that Mrs. Cavanaugh did not know of us but heard of a child in need and was happy to help. Our reputation with horses is excellent and with the kind words of Larry and Muriel McElhose, the Livingstons and Anne Quinn, Susan was kind enough to lease us this wonderful mare. We were shocked to learn that “Fanny” had not been ridden in 10 years.  That tells me that Anne is an excellent trainer since she gave “Fanny” her start. This mare is also the Dam of My Scoundral, Megan Plaster’s gelding.
I do not think Susan Cavanaugh realizes just what a special person she is and what a positive effect she has had on my daughter. A big word of thanks to Susan Cavanaugh for a introducing us to Arabian Horses and this special mare, “Fanny”.

(This was submitted by Salley Jones and her daughter, Lindsay. They would like everyone to know how much they appreciated what Susan Cavanaugh did for them. This is just another example of what special people we have in this club- Susan Pugh)
